Cupping Massage

Cupping massage is an ancient and time-tested practice of alternative medicine for treating health problems. Cupping therapy is applied additionally during massage for various parts of the body. Suction cups are placed either at acupuncture points or in pain areas.

This specialized technique works effectively to the treatment of:

  • colds
  • the resolution of muscle spasms
  • the stimulation of the peripheral nervous system
  • the reduction of dysmenorrhoea pain
  • the improvement of gastrointestinal problems and respiratory disorders

🎯 In the sessions are used both traditional cups with flame and cups made of easy- to-use materials that do not cause pain, but a pulling sensation on the skin. Sometimes after treatment the characteristic bruising of the skin appears but usually disappears after a few days.

1. Could there be any contraindications or reasons that make a massage therapy inappropriate?

Massage therapy is not indicated in some cases, such as the presence of acute injuries, skin diseases, thrombosis, serious heart disease, neoplasms or recent surgeries. Assessment by the qualified therapist is essential before the beginning of any session.

2. What is the difference between the various massage techniques?

Each massage technique has a different purpose:

  • Swedish massage aims to improve blood circulation, reduce muscle tension, and enhance general well-being.
  • Sport massage aims to improve athletic performance, prevent injuries, and support muscular recovery both pre- and post- exercise.
  • Therapeutic massage contributes to the relief of musculoskeletal pain, muscular spasms, and joint or muscle stiffness.
  • Lymphatic massage aims to stimulate lymphatic circulation, promoting detoxification of the body, reduction of swelling, and strengthening of the immune system.
  • Reflexology massage is a pressure technique applied to specific points on the feet that correspond to organs and systems of the body, activating self-healing mechanisms and promoting the body's natural balance.
  • Maderotherapy uses wooden tools to sculpt the body and activate blood circulation and lymph flow.
  • Cupping massage is based on suction techniques for muscle relaxation and detoxification.

3. Why do cupping marks appear? Is this normal?

Yes, the appearance of marks following a cupping session is entirely normal. These marks:

  • Are not bruises resulting from trauma, but rather the outcome of localized hyperemia (increased blood flow) caused by the suction effect of the cups.
  • Are generally not painful, although mild tenderness in the area may occasionally be experienced.
  • Typically resolve within 3 to 10 days, depending on factors such as skin type, the intensity of the suction, and the individual's overall health.

4. How often can I receive cupping therapy?

The appropriate frequency of cupping therapy varies based on individual needs and the therapeutic objective. Generally, a weekly session is considered safe and effective for therapeutic purposes. For maintenance and overall well-being, one to two sessions per month are usually sufficient.

It is important to allow the body adequate time to assimilate the therapeutic benefits and for the marks to fully subside before scheduling the next session.
